Summative Assessment
Test
On the right you can find a sample test under the assumption that the there will be a two part test. The first one based on kinematics and the second with a deeper understanding of topics surrounding dynamics. This sample test is meant to be finished within 45 minutes. ELL students will be able to finish the test within the remain class period. Depending on the length of your class, you may need to add or reduce from this sample. This test was designed to prepare students for university exams. There is a portion that is short answer and another that is multiple choice. Students are asked to place the multiple choice answers in table at the end of the section. |

STEM Project
Another format of summative assessment could be a project. This project should be given at the beginning of the unit and it should be completed a few days after the last lesson is given. The project is to be mostly completed during students' free time, but some time should be given during class to address any questions they may be having. Structural engineering demonstrates many of the topics covered in dynamics. There are five topic covered in this project, so the class must be divided into five groups. Students will need to access the following link to learn about their topic: bridges, domes, skyscrapers, dams and tunnels. All groups must thoroughly investigate all link of their designated topic and prepare a presentation. Each presentation should be between 15-20minutes. At the end of their presentation. Students are to submit their presentation as a group and each student must individually hand in a participation assessment. This allows all students to report on the participation of each group member without peer pressure. A rubric should be given or uploaded for students to know how they will be assessed. |
